1. GK: Darren Randolph
After winning Boro's player of the season award last year, the Republic of Ireland shot-stopper remains a key part of the club. He has rescued several points for the Teessiders in the last few seasons.

2. RB: Emilio Nsue
Right-back has proved a tricky position to fill for Boro over the last decade. Nsue filled the void in the 2015/16 promotion-winning season and did an admirable job.

3. CB: Daniel Ayala
After signing for the club in 2013, the towering centre-back has racked up over 200 appearances for Boro. Ayala's aerial presence in both boxes has been a major asset.

4. CB: Ben Gibson
Teesside through and through, Gibson progressed through Boro's academy before captaining his hometown club. The Gibson-Ayala partnership was immense during the 2015/16 promotion campaign.
