The two attacking players have both signed for the Teessiders on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season and were involved in Friday’s training session ahead of the Riverside clash.

Boro’s early business in the window will give Woodgate some much-needed options and bolster his extremely thin squad.

When asked how his new signings could fit into the side, Woodgate replied: “Patrick can play off the right-hand side or he can play as a No 10.

“Lukas can play as a 10 or as a nine so I have options in that area of the pitch which I haven’t had this season.

“Rudy (Gestede) was fantastic the other day so there is another one coming back from injury who can make a real impact in the second half of the season.

“We do need options at the high end of the pitch to produce bits of magic when things aren’t going your way.”

Boro’s meeting with Spurs comes at a good time for the Teessiders following four consecutive Championship wins.

When asked if Roberts, 22, and Nmecha, 21, could feature against Jose Mourinho’s team, Woodgate said: “I’ll have to see if they go straight in for the Spurs game.

“I’ll have to make up my mind on that, but they’re definitely in contention.”

Boro defender Daniel Ayala has been ruled out of the game, though, with the club still assessing the Spaniard’s ankle injury.
