The 20-year-old left-back has been a regular for Boro’s under-23 side this season and been called-up to the bench for the senior team.

Reading has also featured for Scotland’s under-21s in recent months, and Boro head coach Jonathan Woodgate says the opportunity was too good to turn down.

“Paddy has progressed well over the past few years, and this is an opportunity for him now to go and really forge his career at a senior level,” said Woodgate.

“He needs to be playing games beyond U23 level and he is a great lad who goes with our best wishes for the future.”

Boro have also allowed winger Isaiah Jones to join Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old has impressed for Boro’s under-23 side this term.
