Both players joined the Teessiders in the summer but have struggled to nail down a first-team place at the Riverside this season.

Browne, 22, has been linked with several clubs in the last few days after Boro completed the loan signings of Patrick Roberts and Lukas Nmecha from Manchester City.

When asked about Browne following his side’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the FA Cup, Boro head coach Jonathan Woodgate said: “I spoke to Browney two days ago and said he’d be able to go out on loan. I think it’s important Marcus gets games so there will be a few teams in for him.

“Likewise with Marc Bola, he’ll be able to go out on loan and come back in pre-season and fight for his place.

“I think it’s important that with those two careers they don’t stagnate and they go out and play games, we’ll be watching them all the way through the season and monitoring their progress.

“That’s the only two at the minute, I’ll have to see what else happens in the window.”

When asked if anything could happen this week, Woodgate replied: “It just depends which clubs come in for them.

“I know we’ve had a lot of enquiries for Marcus Browne and Bola so let’s see what the best place is for them to play games.

“We do it when I’m looking at players, we need that now with Marcus Browne and Marc Bola.”

Woodgate was also quizzed about recent speculation linking winger Marvin Johnson and goalkeeper Darren Randolph with moves away from the Riverside, but remained coy on both.

“It’s speculation, I haven’t got a clue,” said Woodgate when asked about Johnson.

On Randolph, who remains sidelined with a thigh injury, Woodgate added: “Not sure on Darren yet, I’ll probably know more after the game.

“I don’t know the situation, all I know is that he’s here at the minute.”
