Jose Mourinho reveals thoughts on Middlesbrough after Tottenham's FA Cup draw
Jose Mourinho gave a positive appraisal of Middlesbrough and owner Steve Gibson following Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at the Riverside.
Spurs came from behind in the third-round FA Cup tie after Lucas Moura’s header cancelled out Ashley Fletcher’s second-half opener.
And Mourinho, whose former Real Madrid assistant Aitor Karanka, managed Boro, was asked about the Teessiders after the game.
“First of all, I hope they do well,” replied the Spurs boss. “They are in a position of stability in the league. Can they reach the play-offs? I don't know.
“I like the club, I like the owner, I respect him a lot. Since Karanka was here the club became even more important to me because of my connection with Aitor.”
Mourinho is also looking forward to next week’s replay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate and assistant Robbie Keane will return to their former club.
“I wish Jonathan and Robbie the best,” added Mourinho. “I see the team and it is well organised, very competitive with new players coming.
“I think it is great for them to go to London, to our new stadium. The fans will show them the respect, Robbie scored so many goals for Tottenham and Jonathan scored the goal that gave Tottenham their last silverware, so the fans will show them respect, the same they did with Aaron Lennon came back with Burnley.
“It is good for them, if they can take the second team, even better because we want to impress. They can show they like Tottenham by taking the second team!”
