The 25-year-old only moved to the Riverside less than a year ago, yet Boro boss Neil Warnock has said he wants to sign three new strikers for next season.

It was claimed last week that Akpom had been offered to a handful of Championship clubs, including Bristol City, Millwall and Charlton.

The Northern Echo have also reported that Nottingham Forest and newly-promoted Hull City have been credited with an interest in Akpom.

The match will come after the Teessiders’ meeting with Bishop Auckland on Wednesday, July 14 and their pre-season training camp in Devon and Cornwall where they will play three additional friendlies.

Boro boss Neil Warnock told the club’s website:“I promised York I would take a team there.”

“It’s a club I used to play for, and importantly it’s another game that’s local for our supporters to be able to come and watch.

“It’s also a new ground for us all. I’ve not been, and it will be the first chance our supporters will have had to visit so it’s another game to look forward to.”
