The 22-year-old has followed City team-mate Patrick Roberts to the Riverside, with both signing loan deals until the end of the season.

After a lack of transfer activity in the summer, most Boro fans are pleased to get deals over the line so early in the window.

Here’s how some supporters reacted to the news on Twitter.

@jimmylees: Wasting no time! Well done Boro

@LA_Johnson4: Woodgate been playing FM getting all the wonderkids

@Hughavinalaf: Great potential, very powerful.Played well for Preston last year,he could be a monster in the Championship if it all clicks.

@MikeyyyBoro: I want these loan players to do well obviously but I don’t see the long term benefit of signing Man City youngsters when we can just play our own? This means less game time for Walker, Spence and Browne surely?

@BoroBuzz: Business done early with Roberts and Nmecha through the door. Should pave the way for O’Neill to go back out on loan.

@4TheLoveOfBoro: This guy signed for Wolfsburg in the summer! Another coup. Well done Boro.
