MIDDLESBROUGH boss Aitor Karanka has confirmed his interest in re-signing Sunderland striker Danny Graham.

The 28-year-old netted six goals in 18 appearances for Boro after agreeing a loan deal to return to the Riverside for a second spell in January.

Graham’s future at the Stadium of Light is uncertain, even though he has two years remaining on a lucrative Sunderland contract.

Gus Poyet opted against bringing Graham back to Wearside in January and the likelihood is that he will sanction his departure again this summer, particularly if Sunderland avoid the drop.

Boro may struggle to raise the finances needed to sign Graham on a permanent deal after Sunderland shelled out £5million to land the frontman 18 months ago.

But another loan could appeal to the Black Cats if they are unable to offload Graham permanently and the former Swansea man has indicated he would be keen to remain with Boro.

There are no shortage of admirers for Graham - with Bolton and Leeds among those who were keen to sign him in January - but Karanka admits he is interested.

Asked if Graham will return, the Spaniard said: “Possibly yes, because he came here to help us and he has helped us a lot with his experience, with his goals, with his character.

“When he came here he hadn’t played a lot of games but I think he played all of the games for us. His performance was very good, his contribution was very good.”
