Middlesbrough boss questions penalty decision after unbeaten record ends at Norwich

After enjoying a strong start to the campaign, which had seen them climb to the summit of the second tier, Boro's unbeaten record ended away at Norwich City.

In an evenly-matched affair, a second half strike from Teemu Pukki proved enough for the Canaries - although Pulis felt it was a fortunate goal.

And the Middlesbrough manager felt his side were left to rue missed opportunities after dominating the game for large spells.

“It’s disappointing, I thought we had a pretty good start,” he said, speaking to mfc.co.uk.

“A couple of opportunities, a couple of chances, an array of corners and we dropped off after about 20 minutes and they came into the game, and they were the better team up until half-time and they were better after the break as well up until they got the goal.

“We made some changes, we tried to make the changes before they scored the goal.

Pukki's strike came after a spell in which Boro dominated, and the Teessiders even had penalty appeals waved away before Norwich raced to the other end and netted what proved to be the winner.

And Pulis has questioned the decision not to award a penalty which would have completely turned the ride of the game.

"The goal is a fortuitous goal, if you look at the challenge on Britt (Assombalonga) down at the bottom end of the goal, it’s a penalty for me," he admitted.

“The lad’s going past him and he’s brought him down.

"From there they get their goal and it’s a fortuitous goal, it’s going wide, the lad toe pokes it, hits Shotts (Ryan Shotton) on the inside of his foot and goes in. Not our day in lots of respects.”

Elsewhere in the Championship, Leeds United left it late to steal a point from Millwall, as former Boro loanee Jack Harrison netted in the dying minutes - cancelling out Jed Wallace's opener.

That sent the Whites top, while victories for Brentford and Bristol City saw them leapfrog Boro into the top three, with Pulis' side now fourth.
