Middlesbrough captain Matthew Bates is revved up for Peterborough United’s visit to The Riverside

SKIPPER Matthew Bates is determined to see Middlesbrough end an incredible month in perfect fashion – by picking up three points against Peterborough.

Boro are buzzing ahead of the visit of the Posh to the Riverside after the Boxing Day win over Hull City.

Barry Robson’s stunning late winner not only sent the majority of a season’s best 27,794 crowd home happy it gave Boro their fourth win in December.

It’s been Boro’s most productive month of the season, taking 12 points out of a possible 12 and inflicting defeats on promotion rivals Brighton, Cardiff and Hull.

And, after spending much of the campaign faring better on the road, Bates now says the squad can’t wait for another Riverside fixture – especially on the back of having their biggest crowd since the club’s long run in the Premier League.

“It has been a good month,” said the 25-year-old defender. “We’ve had four wins on the trot and three clean sheets in a row at home.

“Notoriously in the past December has been a bad month for us so it’s been nice to change that.

“We’re at home again on Saturday which is good.

“Peterborough will come here full of confidence after winning away from home at Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.

“We are going into every game with belief and I don’t think we fear anyone in this league now.”
