New Middlesbrough signing Alex Baptiste has had surgery on the broken leg he suffered in the pre-season friendly at York City.
The defender, who only joined from Bolton last week, was stretchered off less than 30 minutes into the 1-0 friendly win over York City at Bootham Crescent.
Officials at the Championship club have confirmed Baptiste had surgery over the weekend and is now on the long road to recovery.
He suffered a double fracture of his leg and it left his manager Aitor Karanka visibly upset afterwards.
A Boro statement read: “Summer signing Alex Baptiste has begun his recovery and rehabilitation after suffering a double fracture of his leg.
“The former Bolton and Blackpool defender, who joined the club at the start of last week, suffered the injury just 22 minutes into his Boro debut at York City on Saturday.
“Baptiste underwent a successful operation over the weekend, and is now on the road to recovery.”
