Middlesbrough have allowed defender James Husband to extend his loan stay with Huddersfield Town.

The defender’s initial loan period came to an end after the Terriers 2-1 defeat at Preston on Saturday.

But a further two-month extension has been agreed - with title-chasing Boro retaining a 24-hour recall clause.

George Friend's injury is expected to rule him out for at least four more games, so Husband was expected to return to Boro.

But Aitor Karanka has been impressed with loan signing Ritchie de Laet, allowing Husband to extend his loan deal.

The 22-year-old, whose only Boro appearance so far this season came at Oldham in the Capital One Cup in August, has made three appearances so far for Huddersfield.

He made 12 appearances for Championship side Fulham earlier in the season while on loan at Craven Cottage.
