Middlesbrough fans comment on Jonathan Woodgate's tactics after Nottingham Forest draw
It’s not been the easiest of starts for Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate since taking his first managerial role in the summer - yet Boro supporters were crediting their head coach following Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.
The Teessiders came from a goal down at the City Ground after Paddy McNair’s penalty nine minutes from time drew the visitors level.
Woodgate changed formation from a back three to a back four after his side fell behind to a Ryan Yates header midway through the second half, with striker Stephen Walker and winger Marvin Johnson making an impact off the bench.
Boro also tweaked their shape to cope with Forest’s attacking full-backs and fans praised Woodgate for the alterations.
Here’s how some supporters reacted to the result on social media:
@Matt_Rowney: Good point for #Boro tonight but with Stoke and Huddersfield getting all 3 its tightened right back up again at the bottom!
@rob5gordon: Fair play Woodgate, took a lot of stick this season but he’s done well there. Right subs at the right time. Good point that
@JamesRCockerill: Forest's goal was a blessing in disguise tonight, forced Woodgate's hand. Much improved once the changes were made and unlucky not to go on and win it. Happy with a point in the end though, free shot at Swansea before a massive game against Stoke. UTB!
@TeessiderUTB: People saying why can’t we go for it from minute one. Because we are up against a good side and they’d pick us off. Gameplay was perfect. Woodgate haters quiet there? What a point in our current situation.
@TheEightball80: Fair play to Woodgate there. We looked awful for 75 mins, he then puts two up top and we look a totally different side.
@DoddsWill25: Great result for the #Boro tonight. I have been critical of Woodgate lately. But I love how he’s starting to trust our youngsters more and more - Coulson and Spence are brilliant to watch
@DenLadMFC: What pleased me is Woodgate adjusted his tactics at ht to block their crosses and dominance on the flanks . We are steadily improving
@kabirdavee: Gotta say, the way Woodgate changed things at half time and when we went behind was excellent. Completely different team at 1-0 down. Very good point
@ayersome: Think the changes that were made were probably the best tactical changes woodgate has made all season to impact a game.
@1CJHeath: Great point away at Forest, the way Woodgate set us up at the beginning of the 2nd half was shocking. Looked a much better team when Clayton went off as well
