MIDDLESBROUGH have been offered the opportunity to land former Newcastle United winger Kieron Dyer on a free.

With no new deal on offer at relegated West Ham, the ex-England player is out-of-contract this summer and looking for a new club after an injury-hit time at Upton Park.

It is understood contact has been made with Boro by Dyer’s representatives to see if there is any interest in bringing him to Teesside.

The 32-year-old has property in the region from his time at the Magpies, and a move back to the North-East would appeal to a player desperate to relaunch his career.

But Boro have to reduce their wage bill, so Dyer would have to be prepared to accept a big cut in the £83,000 salary he enjoyed in the East End.

Tony Mowbray’s financial restrictions mean that he will have to move players on to land Roda JC winger Anouar Hadouir, so any bid for Dyer may be along way down the line.

Dyer managed four games during a loan spell with Ipswich this season, and the clulb outfit are keen on taking him back to Suffolk this summer.

A broken leg after moving to West Ham in 2007 was a major blow, while a series of injuries conspired to limit his chances at Upton Park.
