According to a piece from Football League World, Sheffield United are considering a cut-price summer raid for the 25-year-old who is out of contract on Teesside at the end of the season.
As things stand, Fletcher is yet to agree terms on an extension to his current deal, although manager Neil Warnock seems fairly unbothered by the situation, and recently admitted that talks over a renewal could be held off until Boro’s campaign is concluded.
If the forward fails to reach an agreement, the Blades are understood to be waiting in the wings to lure him away from the Riverside.
Fletcher has hit four goals in 12 appearances for Warnock's men this season, two of which have come in the Championship.
Since signing from West Ham in 2017, the hitman has scored 28 goals in 107 outings at a rate of one every 228 minutes.
To contextualise that figure, current Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has one goal every 1,323 minutes for the Blades.
Elsewhere, Championship promotion hopefuls Watford look as if they may have to weather a storm to hang on to defender Francisco Sierralta.
The 23-year-old Chilean has impressed since signing from Udinese last September, and it is understood that a number of Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace and West Ham are keeping tabs on him.
That update comes from journalist Enzo Olivera via Last Word On Sport.
As per Whoscored, Sierralta has been the Hornets’ third-highest rated player in the Championship so far this season.
