Middlesbrough transfer news: Boro's £5m-rated ace urged to leave for Champions League football, Watford set to battle for Serie A winner

Middlesbrough's season drew to a close last weekend, as Neil Warnock's side failed to register a single shot on target in a dispiriting 3-0 home loss to Wycombe Wanderers.

The result sees Boro finish the season in tenth place, 13 points adrift of the play-offs, and much work will be required over the summer if the side are to make a promotion challenge next season.

Speaking after the loss to Wycombe, Warnock reflected on the season as a whole, and claimed: “To finish tenth, I’m delighted, and I think if we can have a little bit of luck with the recruitment and players coming back from injury, we’ll have a very good chance of finishing higher than tenth next season.

“I don’t think I’m being disrespectful to the lads who have been here but we’ve finished tenth without a striker this season really. It’s very difficult in any league to finish without a striker because I think Britt (Assombalonga) and Ash (Ashley Fletcher) and everybody will be disappointed with the outcome.

“I’m on about ten goals a season minimum and there’s only Duncan (Watmore) who has come up tops. We know where we’re looking and have to bring the right ones in to give ourselves a chance next year.”

Boro will now be full focused on building for next season, as they look to get their summer recruitment right and push on towards the play-offs in the 2021/22 campaign.
