A deal for Morrison appears close, and the 26-year-old has reportedly rejected offers from other clubs to join Boro on a short-term contract.

Head coach Jonathan Woodgate is also looking to sign another centre-back before the end of the month and is interested in Saint-Etienne centre-back Moukoudi.

The 22-year-old is one of several targets the Teessiders have been tracking in recent weeks, and played against Boro during July’s pre-season friendly at the Riverside.

Moukoudi is available on loan due to his lack of game time in Ligue 1.

Boro were also interested in Leicester defender Filip Benkovic yet the Croatian now looks set to sign for Championship rivals Bristol City.

Former captain Ben Gibson was also a target yet Burnley seem reluctant to let the player leave.
