MIDDLESBROUGH’S Under-21s have gone top of the table after beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Hartlepool United’s Victoria Park ground.
Boro’s second string took the lead last night in the 35th minute through Tom McAloon, who scored from a narrow angle after good work from Bradley Halliday.
Bradley Fewster, whose proposed loan move to Pools collapsed earlier this month, started the game and doubled his side’s lead midway through the second-half.
The 18-year-old was fouled inside the area by Baggies keeper Jack Rose in the 77th minute and he stepped up to slam home the spot-kick.
It secured Boro’s fourth straight win in National Group Division Two.
Neither Hartlepool-born Bryn Morris or Luke Williams, who enjoyed a spell on loan at Pools last season, were in the squad.
The Championship side played several development fixtures in town last season and a similar arrangement is in place for the current campaign.
