MIDDLESBROUGH winger Muzzy Carayol has returned from his loan spell at Brighton - and signed a contract extension.

The 28-year-old has had his contract extended until June 2017 and is available to play a part in the club’s play-off campaign.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka says he is delighted to tie the winger down to a longer deal.

Karanka said: “I’m very happy.

“It is the best thing because he has recovered from a serious injury and had the opportunity to play some games at Brighton.

“He is now able to play for us in the play-offs.

“Muzzy has improved with us and can be a very important player for us in the future if he continues in the same way.”

Carayol was sidelined for almost a year after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage last season, but after returning to action with Boro’s Under-21s he now has five Championship appearances to his name after a loan spell with Brighton.
