Neil Warnock eyes midfield addition as Championship rivals prepare second bid for reported West Brom and Middlesbrough target

Boro have brought in goalkeeper Joe Lumley on a free transfer from QPR, yet Warnock’s priority is to bolster his team’s attacking options.

The Boro boss recently spoke to The Edinburgh Evening News about Hearts midfielder Loic Damour, a player he managed at Cardiff City.

"I’m looking at another midfielder but Loic was a good squad man for me,” said Warnock.

“I thought of him as a lad who would play ten to 15 games a season for me. When we had problems with injuries you could look to him. Or when I needed his tackling for certain games then he would play."

On this summer’s transfer window, Warnock added: “Everything is going to start moving in about two weeks’ time. I want six or seven players. I’ve signed one keeper so far, that’s all.

“I’m talking to everybody but haven’t got anyone signed. Players have got to be realistic because the money isn’t there like it was before.”

Millwall persist with Josh Windass

One forward who Boro have been linked with is Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass.

Several other Championship clubs, including West Brom and Fulham, have been credited with interest in the 27-year-old who scored nine Championship goals for Wednesday last season.

According to The South London Press, Millwall are set to make an improved bid for Windass.

Battle for Liverpool defender

Finally, Burnley and Brighton are among a host of clubs reportedly keen on signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips this summer.

Boro were one of several Championship clubs who were linked with Phillips last season, yet the Reds defender stayed at Anfield due to injury setbacks.

According to Goal.com, Burnley and Brighton have expressed the strongest interest in Phillips so far, yet a decision hasn’t been made about his future.

Burnley were also credited with interest in Boro centre-back Dael Fry but appear to have turned their attention elsewhere.

It’s also been reported the Clarets are closing in on a deal to sign Stoke centre-back Nathan Collins.
