Neil Warnock makes transfer prediction, reported West Brom and Norwich target allowed to leave plus Charlton contract update

Warnock wants to add six or seven more players to his squad this summer as he aims to challenge for promotion from the Championship.

Speaking to TalkSport, Warnock said: “We’ve got the keeper in - Joe Lumley from QPR. I’ve always rated the lad and I’m looking forward to working with him.

“We’re talking to five, six, seven agents and players to try and get some movement.

“I think everything happens in that first week in July really though, when the contracts are up and the players have to start making decisions.

“That’s when all the movement will be I think.

“But I’m quite happy so far with how our recruitment is going and I’m hoping in the next couple of weeks that we will have a number of new faces.”

Newcastle midfielder to leave on loan

Earlier this week Boro were linked with Newcastle midfielder Matty Longstaff.

The 21-year-old was a target for Italian club Udinese before he signed a new contract at St James’ Park last summer.

Newly-promoted Norwich and West Brom have also been credited with interest in Longstaff, who made just five Premier League appearances last term.

According to our sister title The Shields Gazette, Longstaff will be given the opportunity to leave on loan and gain regular game time.

Charlton in talks with duo

Elsewhere, Charlton boss Nigel Adkins has held fresh talks with Chuks Aneke and goalkeeper Ben Amos, who will both be out of contract this summer.

Aneke has been linked with several clubs, including Boro, in recent weeks but could stay at The Valley.

Adkins told London News Online: “We’ll have to wait and see. For example, I spoke to Ben and Chuks yesterday. They know I want them at the football club. The players have to make a decision and the agents make a decision for the finances as well. It is the way it is, let’s not hide about it.

“There are many factors now in a player deciding where they want to be. Agents have a big say in it but ultimately the player has got to be happy where they are playing.”
