The Sun claim that the Magpies are the latest Premier League side to show an interest in the 16-year-old after a fine season in front of goal.

Kavanagh has been a regular for Boro’s under-18 side and is also gaining international recognition in Ireland’s youth set-up.

And his rise to prominence has been accompanied by a rise in interest – with Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester City and Celtic also understood to be monitoring the striker.

Kavanagh is the son of former Boro and Sunderland midfielder Graham, and the Riverside Stadium outfit are keen to tie down the talented youngster to a longer-term deal.

But the Sun claim that while Kavanagh is happy to stay on Teesside, he would prefer to pen a shorter deal to see how his career progresses.
