The Boro squad is evidently short of wide players following the departures of Marvin Johnson and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, while Yannick Bolasie and Neeskens Kebano saw their loan deals end.
Marcus Tavernier and Duncan Watmore can operate on the flanks but may be better suited to central positions if the Teessiders can land some of their transfer targets.
While funds are available, Boro will be assessing players who are available as free agents or on loan as they look to sign eight or nine players ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Warnock and the club’s recruitment team have also been looking at options in League One and League Two who could make the step up to Championship level.
Here are nine players who Boro could target.
1. Junior Hoilett - Free agent

2. Jed Wallace - Millwall
The playmaker has been linked with Boro in the past and has consistently posted good numbers for Millwall. The 27-year-old has a year left on his contract after scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists for the Lions during the 2020/21 season. Photo: Jacques Feeney
3. Yannick Bolasie - Free agent
After his loan spell at Boro, Bolasie is also set to become a free agent this summer when his contract at Everton expires. The 32-year-old would have to take a significant pay cut to move to the Riverside, yet Warnock would be interested in the player if terms can be agreed. Photo: Jacques Feeney
4. Charlie Kirk - Crewe
Some may remember the 23-year-old who scored at the Riverside when Crewe knocked Boro out of the League Cup in 2019. After helping The Alex win promotion from League Two, Kirk established himself in the division above, scoring six goals and providing eight assists.
