Warnock has already been assessing players who could be available in the summer – with signing at least another striker the priority.
Boro will also have to make decisions on several players who will be out of contract at the end of the season, while there are also players on loan whose futures remain unclear.
The Teessiders have already handed out multiple contract extensions this term, with the likes of Anfernee Dijksteel, Marc Bola, Paddy McNair and Jonny Howson penning new deals at the Riverside.
Warnock recently held a meeting with Boro chairman Steve Gibson to discuss a range of topics, including transfers and contracts.
We’ve taken a closer look at the situation and the players who Boro will have to make a decision about over the next few months.
1. Ashley Fletcher - contract expires summer 2021
Boro offered the striker, 25, a new contract earlier in the year but the player and his representative chose to wait until the end of the season. Warnock wants to sign at least one more forward even if Fletcher stays. Photo: Stu Forster
2. Britt Assombalonga - contract expires summer 2021
It seems increasingly unlikely the 28-year-old will be offered a new deal. Warnock appears to have lost confidence in Assombalonga who would also have to take a wage cut to stay at the Riverside. Photo: Clive Brunskill
3. Marvin Johnson - contract expires summer 2021 (one year option)
After signing a one-year contract extension last summer, Johnson, 30, has played enough games to activate an additional one-year option. Photo: George Wood
4. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing - contract expires summer 2021
After joining Boro in a short-term deal in January, the 28-year-old has improved in recent weeks. Warnock knows what Mendez-Laing is capable of following their time together at Cardiff. Photo: Getty Images
