Transfer rumours: Latest on Liverpool defender, contrasting Middlesbrough and Norwich reports plus Blackburn’s striker hunt
As Middlesbrough prepare to step up their pre-season preparations in the coming weeks, manager Neil Warnock will hope to make another breakthrough in the transfer market.
Boro were able to sign goalkeeper Joe Lumley on a free transfer from QPR but Warnock still has plenty of positions to address ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Here are some of the latest Boro-related rumours.
Latest on Liverpool defender
While bolstering his side’s attacking options is the priority for Warnock this summer, Boro will also be looking for cover in defence.
Last summer the Teessiders were credited with interest in Liverpool defender Neco Williams, yet the 20-year-old, who has also been linked with Stoke, appears set to stay at Anfield.
Speaking on the Liverpool Echo webchat, Reds reporter Paul Gorst said: “I think the plan for Williams is for him to stay put.
“He's only 20 and a fully fledged international. It cost Liverpool around £11m for a Robertson back-up last summer in Tsimikas, so loaning Williams would need them to get one for the right side too.
“The hope is that a lack of injured centre-backs might allow more rotation in full-back areas next season.”
Contrasting Norwich reports
Reports over the weekend claimed that Boro are eyeing up a move for Norwich’s head of recruitment Kieran Scott.
Scott played a key role in the signings of Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia, who has since joined Aston Villa, at Carrow Road.
According to The Sun, Boro are mulling over offering Scott a role as sporting director.
It’s since been claimed by reports in Norfolk, via The Eastern Daily Press, that Norwich have had no contact from Boro regarding a potential role for Scott.
Blackburn’s striker hunt
Elsewhere in the Championship, Blackburn are reportedly considering a move for Toulouse striker Rhys Healey.
According to The Lancashire Telegraph, Rovers are looking at potential replacements for Adam Armstrong, who is attracting interest from multiple Premier League clubs.
The report claims that Healey, who has previously been linked with Boro, is a potential alternative if Armstong does leave Ewood Park.
Blackpool striker Jerry Yates has been linked with Rovers, but the same report claims there has been no contact between the two clubs.
