Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are close to officially completing their takeover of National League side Wrexham as they wait approval from the Financial Conduct Authority.

The Wrexham Supporters Trust approved the takeover by the Hollywood pair back in November and is now ready to be officially completed following the exchange of contracts.

A member of the Wrexham Supporters Trust posted that the takeover would be completed on Monday [January 18], prompting a statement from the board.

It read: "It has come to the Wrexham Supporters Trust Board’s attention that a member posted unofficial and unsubstantiated remarks on social media about the takeover being ‘concluded tomorrow’.

"Please be advised that the WST Board will let members know as soon as possible through official Club/WST channels when there are further developments or when matters have been finalised.

"Last week the board concluded negotiation of the Share Purchase Agreement with RR McReynolds LLC and have exchanged contracts.

"Completion of the deal is now conditional upon a change to the Wrexham Supporters Trust rules – as approved by the members in November last year – being registered by the Financial Conduct Authority.”

The Mail understands that representatives of the pair had initially held prospective talks with Hartlepool United regarding a potential takeover back in the summer. Those discussions failed to materialise as Raj Singh turned down the proposal due to a lack of transparency.

Elsewhere in the National League, Dagenham & Redbridge have extended the loan of Bolton Wanderers defender Liam Gordon until the end of the 2020-21 season.

The 21-year-old joined Bolton from Dagenham last summer and was loaned back to his former club on an initial one month deal in December.

In other transfer news, Woking have completed the signing of former Cheltenham Town striker Jonte Smith.

The 26-year-old returns to non-league football after a brief spell in the Football League with the Robins and Oxford United. The Bermuda international has scored twice in 13 caps for his country and will wear the number nine shirt at Woking.
