Fabricio Coloccini is set to finally make his seasonal debut for Newcastle United.
Coloccini has missed the Magpies’ first four pre-season friendlies because of a sore Achilles.
The 33-year-old defender was one of half a dozen players left out of the final USA tour game in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
However, Coloccini has been back in full training and he knows he must play in the United’s final three warm-up matches to be ready for the first game of the season against Southampton on August 9.
And Coloccini is set to be named in Steve McClaren’s squad for tomorrow’s game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane (1pm kick-off).
The match is followed by friendlies against York City and Borussia Monchengladbach.
McClaren will be without injured quartet Remy Cabella, Sylvain Marveaux, Emmanuel Riviere and Curtis Good.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are still to confirm the signing of Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba.
The 20-year-old arrived on Tyneside on Thursday to complete a £8million move to St James’s Park.
United had been expected to announce the capture of Mbemba yesterday, but the deal was not confirmed.
The DR Congo international, the subject of a FIFA investigation after it was reported he had four birth dates, will become the club’s third summer signing.
Tomorrow’s match at Bramall Lane is a testimonial for Blades legend, Chris Morgan, who came close to signing for Newcastle, only for Bobby Robson not to take his No2 Mick Wadsworth’s recommendation.
