ON Tyneside, the focus on transfer deadline day was on incoming players.

Only the long-awaited striker didn’t arrive at Newcastle United.

However, there was speculation linking players with outcoming moves, among them defender Danny Simpson.

And the closing of the transfer window came as a relief to Simpson, who is preparing with his team-mates for Monday night’s game at Queens Park Rangers.

Simpson - who has been in talks over a new deal at St James’s Park - was linked with a late move to Aston Villa, but 11pm deadline came and went, and the 24-year-old was still a United player.
