DOUGLAS is back on Newcastle United’s transfer radar.

The defender is available on a free transfer at the end of the month when his FC Twente contract expires.

Douglas has previously been the subject of bids from the club, which is looking to recruit a centre-half this summer.

Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old.

And the Brazilian – who is eligible to play for Holland after getting a Dutch passport through residency – is set to sift through the offers on the table next week.

Reports in Holland have suggested that Douglas is keen on a move to Newcastle.

Pardew – who is hopeful “two or three” players will arrive at St James’s Park in the summer transfer window – is keen to add depth to his defensive options.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor are his first-choice central defensive partnership.

Argentinian club San Lorenzo’s brazen bid to sign Coloccini collapsed last week, fuelling hopes that the 31-year-old – who asked to leave United in January – will stay at Newcastle.

The 31-year-old has three years left on his United contract.

Meanwhile, Motherwell will take on Newcastle in a pre-season friendly at Fir Park on July 16 (7pm kick-off).

The fixture has been revealed by the Scottish Premier League club, managed by Stuart McCall.

United are yet to announce any of their warm-up games.
