SHANE Ferguson’s up for the cup at Newcastle United.
Ferguson made his first appearance of the season in Tuesday night’s 4-3 Carling Cup win over Nottingham Forest.
Alan Pardew’s team were set to discover their fourth-round opponents before this afternoon’s Premier League game against Blackburn Rovers at St James’s Park.
And Ferguson knows the longer Newcastle are in the competition, the more opportuntities there will be for the club’s fringe players, Pardew having made nine changes for the City Ground tie, which was decided by a Fabricio Coloccini goal seconds from the end of extra-time.
The 20-year-old missed the bulk of pre-season after suffering an ankle injury in United’s first friendly at Darlington in mid-July.
And the Northern Ireland international is just glad to be back involved again after a frustrating couple of months on the sidelines.
“It was brilliant to be back in the squad and back playing,” Ferguson said. “It was my first match, and good to be back playing.
“I just want to keep getting fitter and fitter.”
