TEENAGER Dan Barlaser has signed a professional deal at Newcastle United.
The Gateshead-born midfielder has been a regular for Peter Beardsley’s Under-21s this season.
And Barlaser, 18, has signed what the club have described as a “long-term deal” at St James’s Park.
The Turkey Under-17 international said: “I’m really proud and happy to sign for my local club, who I have supported all my life.
“I think I’ve played quite well this season, and have played more games than anyone else at Under-21 level.
“Being involved in the first team a couple of times has been really good as well, and I want to thank all my family and friends for getting me where I am.”
First-team head coach John Carver is keeping a keen eye on Beardsley’s development squad.
Carver said: “Dan has been excellent this season, both for the Under-21s and in the FA Youth Cup ,and fully deserves his first professional contract.
“He is real box-to-box midfielder who is good on the ball.
“Dan is a local lad and a really nice kid who is always keen to learn and improve his game. We hope he continues to progress.”
