INJURED ... Tim Krul.

TIM Krul is set to miss the entire festive period, with his ankle injury expected to keep him out for up to six weeks.

The goalkeeper missed Newcastle United’s 1-0 loss at West Ham United on Saturday after suffering ligament damage in training.

At today’s press conference ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Burnley, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew confirmed Krul was set to be out until at least early January.

His injury will hand an extended chance to Rob Elliot, who played at Upton Park on Saturday.

Among the fixtures Krul will miss are Premier League trips to Arsenal and Manchester United, the Capital One Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur and the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

Pardew said: “I think he’ll be back mid-January or the start of January if we’re lucky.

“It’s a big blow for us. Robbie certainly needed the West Ham game. That’s where the League Cup games can be very important.

“We get so much abuse from the media when we chop and change ,but we’ve chopped and changed over the last seven games and won six of them.

“Robbie is more than capable of deputising, he’s an Irish international. We wish him well.”
