Leicester City midfielder Papy Mendy has urged his side to halt their habit of conceding early goals ahead of their trip to St James's Park.
While the Foxes have enjoyed a fairly strong start to the season, their knack of conceding early goals has often proved their undoing - and will be a weakness that Rafa Benitez's Newcastle will no doubt be keen to exploit.
But Mendy has called on his teammates to ensure that they don't suffer a similarly poor start on Tyneside having claimed that such openings are 'not normal', and is keen to see Leicester maintain their concentration in the early stages.
“This season, we start the beginning of the game often conceding goals after maybe 10 minutes, which is not normal," he said, speaking to Leicester's official website.
“We have to be more concentrated if we want to win some games. We have to be more concentrated and stronger.
“It’s not normal to concede a goal and we’re trying to improve this aspect of our game.”
Claude Puel's side have already picked up three wins this season, and Mendy is targeting a further three points when the Foxes head to St James's Park..
But the 26-year-old knows that Newcastle will prove a stern test after watching several of their early Premier League games.
“I think we have to continue to improve and to get maximum points,” the midfielder added.
“I know a little bit about Newcastle because I look at some [of their] games and this is a strong team, very compact, with a good idea, good coach and good mentality.
“We know this weekend it’s going to be a tough game against a strong team. We have to find a solution to win the game.”
