NEWCASTLE United-target Mathieu Debuchy dreams of joining his close friend Yohan Cabaye in English football.
The Lille defender is understood to be among the club’s summer targets.
And Debuchy – who has also been linked with Manchester United – has told of his intention to play in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old is away with the France squad ahead of Euro 2012. And for the moment, the right-back is concentrating on the tournament.
However, a move away from Lille – where he played with Cabaye, his France room-mate – is on the horizon.
Speaking to the French Press, Debuchy said: “I’d like to play abroad – why not?
“I like other championships too, but I prefer the English style.
“I’ve not spoken to my club, and for the moment, I’m preparing for the Euros. I let my agent handle it.
“If I stay at Lille, I’ll be happy too.”
United – who have delved heavily into the French market in the past two years under the guidance of influential chief scout Graham Carr – watched Debuchy last season. Last month Cabaye revealed he had spoken to Debuchy about a move to Newcastle.
