NEWCASTLE United’s Capital One Cup tie against Manchester City is to be shown live on TV.

And the decision by Sky Sports to screen the last-16 tie on Wednesday, October 30 (7.45pm kick-off) gives Alan Pardew’s side a welcome extra day to recover from the Wear-Tyne derby.

United – who face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, October 27 – could have been forced to play 24 hours earlier.

Newcastle beat Leeds United 2-0 at St James’s Park in midweek to progress to the fourth round.

It is the first meeting between United and City in the League Cup since the 1976 final.
