MOUSSA Sissoko’s three-game spell as captain ended in disgrace at Anfield last night.
Sissoko was sent off for two bookable offences in Newcastle United’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
And the midfielder will be banned for TWO games.
Sissoko will miss Sunday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’s Park AND the April 25 home game against Swansea City through suspension.
Club captain Fabricio Coloccini, however, will be back for the Tottenham game, having now served his for his dismissal at Everton across Stanley Park on Newcastle’s previous visit to Merseyside.
Goals from Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen kept fifth-placed Liverpool’s Champions League hopes alive.
United remain 13th in the Premier League table.
Sterling opening the scoring early in the game with a superb right-footed shot.
But United fought on, and Ayoze Perez should have had a penalty before the break after he was clumsily brought down by Dejan Lovren.
Newcastle maintained their momentum in the second half, but Allen’s 70th-minute strike put the game beyond them.
And to add insult to injury, Sissoko, dismissed against West Ham United in November, was sent off for a crude challenge on Lucas Leiva.
As it is his second sending off of the campaign, he will be banned for an additional game.
