MIKE Williamson is desperate to get back on the field for Newcastle United.
The defender is close to fitness after being sidelined since August with an ankle problem.
Williamson’s iminent return is timely after Steven Taylor suffered an Achilles injury in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
In a significant blow to Newcastle, Taylor is likely to miss the rest of the campaign.
United manager Alan Pardew also will be without Fabricio Coloccini against Norwich City on Saturday, when he will have to change his defence for the first time this season.
However, the visit to Carrow Road will come too soon for Williamson, who instead could be available for the home game against Swansea City a week later.
“I can’t wait to be back,” said the 28-year-old. “I’m looking forward to the buzz of playing again.
“It’s great that the lads have been doing so well this season, and as a player you just want to be out there and join them.
“The aim is to be back out there as quickly as possible and playing again in front of our great supporters.”
