HONEST ... United's Steven Taylor.

STEVEN Taylor conceded that Newcastle United made it “too easy” for Malaga at the Veltins Arena.

Alan Pardew’s side were beaten 3-1 by the Spanish side in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, this afternoon.

Malaga took a 3-0 first-half lead thanks to a strike from Sergei Darder and two goals from Samu Castillejo.

Substitute Gabriel Obertan netted for Newcastle after the break.

But there was no way back for United in the Schalke 04 Cup friendly.

Pardew – who handed Remy Cabella his debut – said after the game that he had got his team selection wrong by naming an inexperienced attack of Ayoze Perez and Adam Armstrong.

And defender Taylor said: “We gave them too much time in the first half.

“It was too easy for them to play from the back at times.

“We tightened up in the second half.

“It was more like Newcastle United, and we started to get hold of the game.

“We got the goal, and caused them problems, but you can’t give a team like Malaga time and space like we did in the first half.

“We know that from experience.”

In the day’s other game at the Veltins Arena, West Ham United beat Schalke 04 7-6 on penalties after the two sides played out a goalless draw.

Newcastle will play the host club tomorrow (4.45pm kick-off BST).
