NEWCASTLE United’s Remie Streete has signed for Port Vale on loan.

The defender – who has joined the League One club on an initial 28-day youth loan – trained with his new team-mates today.

Streete, yet to make a competitive appearance for Newcastle, could make his debut for managerless Vale in Saturday’s home fixture against Yeovil Town.

United have an option to recall the 19-year-old, from South Shields, should he be needed back at St James’s Park.

Streete, for his part, is looking to put two injury-interrupted years behind him.

Speaking to the Gazette in July, he said: “I’ve had a bad two seasons with me being injured – that’s hindered me a little bit – but I’ve got a year left on my contract at Newcastle.

“I want to push on here, get some experience on loan and see where I am at the end of the season.”

Vale have appointed Rob Page as interim manager after the resignation of Micky Adams last month.

The club is keen to strengthen its defence having failed to keep a clean sheet so far this season.

Page and chairman Norman Smurthwaite watched Streete playing for United’s Under-21 at Arsenal in Borehamwood late last month.

Newcastle won 2-1, with Streete scoring both goals.
