Newcastle United are closing in on another transfer breakthrough as new boys Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet prepare to face the media.

Townsend is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in this month's transfer window.

And relegation-threatened Newcastle have reportedly held talks with the winger's agent.

The England international fell out of favour at White Hart Lane in October, and is understood to be available for around £12million.

United signed midfielder Shelvey and winger Saivet early this week, and the pair will appear at a Press conference this lunchtime.

Head coach Steve McClaren will also talk to the media ahead of tomorrow afternoon's home game against West Ham United.

Defender Paul Dummett has revealed the surprising reaction of his team-mates to his dramatic late equaliser in Tuesday night's 3-3 home draw against Manchester United.

And midfielder Georginino Wijnaldum has made a vow to the club after scoring his eighth goal of the season in the match.

Finally, Emmanuel Riviere and Sylvain Marveaux have made goalscoring comebacks for the club.
