NEWCASTLE United are yet to make a move for Lille’s Florian Thauvin.

A report in France claimed the club had tabled an offer of £8.5milion, plus add-ons, for the 20-year-old, who is also wanted by Olympique Marseille.

But SportMail understands United have not made a formal bid for a player Chelsea and Arsenal reportedly also have a interest in.

Lille – who sold Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy to Newcastle – have rejected two offers from Marseille as they don’t want to sell to a Ligue 1 rival.

Newcastle have signed just one player so far this summer – loanee Loic Remy – and the club’s lack of progress has angered fans.

United manager Alan Pardew talked on Thursday of adding another striker – or two “flair” players – to his squad before Monday night’s transfer deadline.

And Thauvin, a left-footed wide player, falls into the latter category.

The France Under-20 international only joined Lille in January from Bastia in a £3m deal and was then loaned back to the Corsican club for the second half of the season.
