CHEIK Tiote has lost his battle to be fit for Newcastle United’s visit to Old Trafford.

And manager Alan Pardew has admitted he has concerns over the fitness of Danny Guthrie.

Guthrie’s deputised for Tiote in Newcastle’s last four games.

But the midfielder’s been unable to train this week, and Pardew admits he’s unsure if the midfielder will be able to last the 90 minutes against Manchester United.

“I think it’s been the toughest selections I’ve had to make,” Pardew said.

“There’ll be no Cheik, and that gives us a problem.

“As good as Danny Guthrie’s been, he’s a different type of player. I have to make sure we have a fighting chance of winning this game.

“Danny has not been 100 per cent.

“He went into the Man City game with a slight injury, and he’ll have to take that into the Man United game.

“Whether he can last the game or not, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Pardew yesterday revealed Sylvain Marveaux’s groin operation in the US has been a success.

But the winger’s still facing up to four months on the sidelines.

“Sylvain’s had a successful operation, and we’re really pleased about that, but we’re still looking at three to four months,” said Pardew.

Summer signing Marveaux – who missed most of last season at former club Rennes with a groin injury – pulled up in Newcastle’s win over Everton earlier this month.
