STEVEN Taylor told of his agony after suffering a potentially season-ending injury.
Taylor will have an operation today after hurting his Achilles in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at St James’s Park.
The defender has all but been ruled out for the season by manager Alan Pardew, who also lost captain Fabricio Coloccini to a thigh problem.
Coloccini and Taylor have been in outstanding form for United this season.
Taylor fought back from a series of injuries over the past couple of years to push himself into contention for an England call-up this season.
But the luckless player – who took the captain’s armband after Coloccini limped off the field – is now facing up to another long spell on the sidelines.
However, the 25-year-old is already focused on the work he needs to do to return to fitness.
“I’m absolutely devastated,” Taylor told SportMail.
“I’ve been here before with my shoulder injury, and I’m just focused on working hard and getting back after the operation.
“I’ve just got to get myself fit again. There’s no time limit, I’ll be ready when I’m ready. There’s no point rushing it - I’ve just got to make sure I’m right.”
