YOHAN Cabaye remains focused on his Newcastle United career despite a summer of speculation over his future, according to Alan Pardew.

Cabaye is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain, while Manchester United and AS Monaco have also been linked with moves for the midfielder.

And there are fears on Tyneside that Cabaye’s days at the club are numbered.

However, United are yet to receive a bid for the 27-year-old.

Pardew’s realistic enough to admit every player has his price, but he maintains the France international has given him no indication he wants to leave St James’s Park.

“Obviously, he’s a player I want to keep,” Pardew said. “He’s a great technical player and his personality is fantastic.

“It’s a big season for him. He will be a starter for France at the World Cup. It’s important for him.

“He’s focused very much on us.

“There’s no bid for him as we speak now. Until such time as there is, he is a Newcastle United player.

“Yohan’s a total 100 per cent professional.

“Anything else, all the speculation, will go on. It’ll always go on around quality players like him, like with Rooney and Ronaldo.

“It’s part and parcel of being a big player.”

Cabaye captained United in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Rio Ave in Portugal and he could again be in the starting XI for tonight’s game against Pacos de Ferreira.

Cabaye struck the crossbar with a fierce shot at the Estadio do Rio Ave.

“Yohan had a couple of special moments,” added Pardew. “It showed his quality.”
