PSV Eindhoven are closing in on former Newcastle United striker Luuk de Jong.
De Jong spent the second half of last season on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach.
But the club opted not to sign the Holland international – whose brother Siem last week signed for Newcastle – on a permanent deal.
De Jong did not score in his 12 United appearances.
Louis Laros, de Jong’s agent, last week told SportMail that a deal could still be done for the 23-year-old – as the two players “compliment” each other on the pitch.
However, German newspaper Bild has claimed that PSV, having had one offer for de Jong rejected, have lodged an improved bid of around £4.5m.
Gladbach are reportedly demanding a fee of more than £6m for a player they paid £12.6 for in the summer of 2012.
