LONG-serving Shola Ameobi will be given the chance to end his career at Newcastle United.
The striker has another year left on his St James’s Park deal.
And United manager Alan Pardew is keen to see Ameobi agree a contract extension.
“He’s still got another year here, and I don’t see a problem extending that,” Pardew told the Gazette.
The 31-year-old - who has scored four goals so far this season - has not been a regular start this season, but Ameobi’s still been an influence on and off the pitch.
Ameobi has spent all of his career at Newcastle except for a brief loan spell at Stoke City during Kevin Keegan’s second tenure as manager.
And the decision will be left to Ameobi - whose first-team career at United spans 13 seasons - as to whether he extends his deal beyond 2014.
“I think the bottom line with Shola will be how long he wants to stay at one club, because he’s been here all his career,” added Pardew.
“I hope he wants to stay, but that’ll be his decision.”
