HARTLEPOOL United could come up against a former Newcastle United starlet in the second round of the FA Cup when they take on Blyth Spartans.

Michael Richardson – who was released by Newcastle in the summer – has joined Blyth Spartans, who Pools will face on December 5.

The midfielder did not make a first-team appearance for the Tyneside club, but appeared on the bench once in the Premier League and also had loan spells at Leyton Orient, Gillingham and Accrington Stanley.

Richardson started his career at non-league club Walker Central, and had worked as an electrician before joining Newcastle.

He could make his debut for Blyth in Saturday’s game against Kings Lynn Town.
