STEVEN Fletcher is confident he will soon be up to speed at Sunderland.
The former Wolves striker made his Black Cats bow in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup victory over Morecambe – playing more than an hour before being replaced by fellow summer signing Louis Saha.
Although the Scot admits he is still well short of match fitness after appearing just once for Wolves during pre-season, he is confident he will reap the benefits from a run-out against the Shrimps.
“I’m not that far off,” he said.
“I got a full pre-season under my belt, I’m just short when it comes to the games.
“But I got a good 60 minutes on Tuesday night which has done me good.
“Hopefully that will stand me in good stead, the gaffer said to me that I just need minutes because I’d only had 45 before Tuesday.
“You can get fit from training and stuff, but actual game time makes a big difference.”
