DUNCAN Watmore’s equaliser handed Sunderland Under-21s their first point of the season after a 1-1 draw at Manchester City tonight.
The Black Cats, who lost their opening game of the campaign in stoppage time against Liverpool last weekend, fought back from a goal down in the North West to get off the mark.
A youthful Sunderland outfit almost went ahead within the opening 10 minutes when Watmore dragged his shot across goal.
The visitors were made to pay midway through the first half when City striker Jordi Hiwula raced through and slotted the ball beyond Sunderland keeper Max Stryjek.
But Sunderland levelled just before the interval when Watmore rounded City stopper Angus Gunn and tapped the ball home.
Sunderland midfielder Martin Smith went close with a long-range effort after the break before Stryjek denied Sinan Bytyqi at the other end.
