SUNDERLAND progressed to the final of the ToteSport Cup in a semi-final goalfeast against Preston.

The Black Cats second string thrashed the Lilywhites 5-3 in the sunshine at the Academy of Light yesterday.

Included in the side were two young trialists - Jason Banton from Liverpool and Roarie Deacon from Arsenal.

Both had promising games with Benton on the right wing and Deacon in particular showing well in midfield.

Keith Bertschin’s side were ahead after only two minutes when left-back Blair Adams went down the left to the line and pulled back for Craig Lynch to control, look up and fire into the top corner.
